Anton Hand spent May telling PCVR users he was still the good guy. Then September arrived and the calendar did the talking.
In May he looked into the camera and said H3VR2 would not be a Quest exclusive. Quote: “No, it will not.” Then: “I’m happy to say there were no exclusivity requirements in our deal.” Quest first because cert is hard and he has been a “goblin Steam developer” his whole life. He even called himself PCVR’s oldest champion. The trailer listed Quest 3/3S and Steam. The Steam page went up. All of that is on tape.

This week the fine print showed up wearing a party hat. UploadVR, September 23: Quest 3 and 3S on November 12. Ten percent off if you pre-order. Steam in the second half of 2027. Better graphics later. Modding later. A community test team later. Meta’s Connect recap did not even bother printing the Steam year. Quest date only.

So no, there is no leaked contract that says “Anton sold the soul of the sausage.” He can hide behind “no exclusivity clause” all day. A clause is not a ship date. If Steam is H2 2027 and Quest is November 12, 2026, PCVR is waiting the better part of a year while Quest gets the sequel. That is exclusive in the only way that matters when you are standing in a playspace holding Index knuckles and watching a hot dog extract without you.
The old speech people keep quoting is about H3VR1, and he is going to need it. For years the line was simple: no Quest port of 1, because he would not ship a gutted gun sim. Fair. Respected. Road to VR even got him to say Quest 3 finally cleared the power bar, Meta wrote a check big enough to call “significant support,” and 2 is a new game with no shared code. Target 72 fps. Not a mini-H3. Wonderful.

That speech does not cover “Steam when we feel like it.” “I will not cripple the first game” is not the same promise as “the sequel lands on PC when it lands on Quest.” He made the second promise in May with his whole chest. He broke the vibe of that promise in September with a date. If your word is “not exclusive” and your storefront is “come back next year,” you are not a contract lawyer. You are a guy who learned how timed windows work.
The rest of his refusals are still refusals, which is at least consistent.

PCVR built that man’s career. A decade of Early Access money. A decade of “we do not ship garbage on mobile.” Then the sequel gets a November Quest launch and a “second half of 2027” Steam shrug. You can still wishlist it. You can still believe the later PC build will be the real one. Just stop pretending May Anton and September Anton were the same guy with a calendar.
