The Thrill of the Fight 2 is on Steam. Halfbrick put it up September 14. The store notice is not subtle.
The Steam version currently supports Steam Frame standalone play only. It will not run on a Windows PC connected to a VR headset. SteamVR PCVR is not supported yet. Frame standalone only. Crossplay with Quest is in. Your 5080 is not. store.steampowered.com
That is new for this store. Steam has been the PC VR shelf for a decade. You buy it here, you boot SteamVR, you play. This listing is a Frame SKU sitting in the same catalog as Half-Life: Alyx. Same blue install button. Different machine. VR.org even flagged the app pointing at lepton-stable, Valve’s Android runtime, not Proton. So it is not a Windows build they forgot to check. It is a standalone build they chose to sell on Steam. vr.org
The timing is the other half. September 14 was Frame reservation day, not delivery day. Signups ran through September 17. First purchase emails started September 18. Units ship as they become available. Most people who bought TOTF 2 on Steam that week do not have a Frame on their desk yet. They have a receipt and a game that refuses a Windows HMD. store.steampowered.com
Quest players already had this game. PCVR players have the original TOTF on Steam and a Spectator app that was meant to watch Quest fights from a PC. What they do not have is TOTF 2 in SteamVR. Halfbrick said that out loud on the store page instead of letting people find out after the download.
Interesting more than outrageous. Steam is no longer only a Windows store with a Linux side door. It is also where Frame-native software lives, even when the headset is still in a queue. If this is the pattern, you will keep seeing VR titles on Steam that your PC cannot launch. Not a bug. A new shelf.
PCVR still gets the first game. The sequel is currently a Frame and Quest product. When they add SteamVR, the notice will change. Until then the listing is the story.
